Who We Are

Gundua Tena (pronounced Goon-dee-ahh Ten-uhh) is Swahili for discover again. This name was chosen by its co-founders because it captures the personal and spiritual journey they each have gone through (and are going through) to gain a deeper understanding of their sense of self. Based on their journeys, they began adapting the concept of rest and recreation (colloquial definition of R&R) to take on a new meaning of rediscovering and reclaiming one's cultural identity (Gundua Tena's definition of R&R).

Gundua Tena was created out the hearts of its co-founders, experiencing first-hand the magnitude of individuals empowering them to be all they were created to be. Lying dormant, there was potential unmet, which was further unlocked through the exploration of their cultural history. All around the globe there are youth who possess unique abilities to inspire and make the world a better place. Gundua Tena was established out of the desire to pay forward what was given to Cy and ACTIQN & to strengthen communities across the nation by providing culturally immersive learning activities, better preparing them for both academic and societal endeavors.
